Kawkaw is a program initiated by LE 18, organized by Younes Baba-Ali and supported by the Kamel Lazaar Foundation. Designed as a collective exhibition project from an artist residence, it is supplemented by a series of meetings and sustained by a progressive and collaborative web platform. Kawkaw brings together five artists from the Maghreb, Mohamed Arejdal, Hadia Gana, Hamedine Kane, Tabti Osama and Ali Tnani to open a space for dialogue and research through artistic practice. Faced with an evolving North African art scene, Kawkaw illustrates the desire to create new ways of thinking and to explore the opportunities and untapped potential of this region. Kawkaw, meaning peanut in Darija is synonymous with a popular food, gladly shared, rich in flavor and common to all countries of the Maghreb. The program embodies this process of decompartmentalization and sharing in the artistic field.
