Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige(Beirut-Lebanon, 1969). 

They now split their time between the Lebanese capital and Paris.

Joana Hadjithomas & Khalil Joreige work together as directors and artists, producing cinematic and visual works. For the past 20 years, they have focused on the images, representations and history of their home country, Lebanon, and have questioned the making of the imaginary in the region across Western media, and the line between documentary and fiction. Together they have made several successful films and short films since 2003. Their films have received multiple awards in international festivals. They also create photographic installations such as Faces, Lasting Images, Distracted Bullets, etc. Their works have been exhibited in museums, biennials and cultural centers around the world, in solo and group exhibitions. Their works are present in numerous collections such as the Musée d'art Moderne de la Ville de Paris; Guggenheim Museum, New York; the Centre Georges Pompidou, France; V & A London; the Kamel Lazaar Foundation, Tunisia, the Sharjah Art Foundation, UAE... They received in 2012 the Abraaj Capital Art Award with the work entitled A Letter Can Always Reach Its Destination. In 2012, they presented their documentary "The Lebanese Rocket Society, the strange tale of the Lebanese space race" and a series of art installations based on the space project of the 1960s.

They have won Prix Marcel Duchamp for their installation Unconformities (2017). Their work was featured in the Athens leg of documenta 14. The prize-winning installation, which references subsoil sampling techniques, is part of the artists’ project looking at ‘the writing of history and the construction of imaginaries’. The prize was founded in 2000 by the Association for the International Diffusion of French Art and the Centre Pompidou, Paris, in recognition of artists working in France.
