Jordan Nassar
Born 1985, New York, NY
Lives and works in Brooklyn
Jordan Nassar was born in New York City in 1985. He earned his BA at Middlebury College in Vermont in 2007. Since 2015, Nassar has begun exhibiting his work which draws on the technique of Palestinian cross-stitch embroidery, tatreez, which is reworked for political commentary and a reflection on the multi-faceted identity of the artist. Themes of identity, biography, and what the artist refers to as “cultural absorption” are important aspects of their work. Influences are Bauhaus-affiliated textile artist and designer Annie Albers, Sheila Hicks, and Etel Adnan, whose works deal with material, history, and identity in varying ways. Nassar has exhibited in group and solo exhibitions widely since 2015, with solo exhibitions in Chicago, London, New York, Los Angeles, and Tel Aviv.
