Version:

The final version of this project sees the production of the publication Mirrors for Princes, published on the occasion of Slavs and Tatars' exhibition at NYU Abu Dhabi, on 28th February 2015.

The book is published by JRP|Ringier, commissioned by NYUAD Art Gallery and edited by Anthony Downey of Ibraaz, the Kamel Lazaar Foundation's publishing initiative.

A combination of scholarship, imagery and text, Mirrors for Princes brings together research around the exhibition, an in-depth conversation between Anthony Downey, Beatrix Ruf and the artists, and essays by preeminent scholars including Manan Ahmed , Neguin Yavari, David Crowley, Anna Della Subin and Lloyd Ridgeon.

Below are some excerpts from the book, which is available to purchase online and the conversation can be read on Ibraaz.

About the artist

Slavs and Tatars is a faction of polemics and intimacies devoted to an area east of the former Berlin Wall and west of the Great Wall of China known as Eurasia. The collective's work spans several media, disciplines, and a broad spectrum of cultural registers (high and low) focusing on an oft-forgotten sphere of influence between Slavs, Caucasians and Central Asians.
