Media artist, composer, and educator based between London and Beirut, Joe Namy came to B7L9 as an Artist in Residence to conduct research on opera in Tunisia. His research was included as part of a larger project on opera in the Middle East and North Africa supported by the Sharjah Art Foundation. Having independently studied jazz, Arabic, & heavy metal drumming, Joe has been programming radio since 2009 as “Electric Kahraba” and has released 5 albums under the moniker “El Iqaa”.
Namy led a two-day workshop where participants explore sound art as a tool fortransformation; engaging in a listening session, exercisesand discussions around the politics of music and sound.
