In his first solo show in Tunisia, Alex Ayed’s “Soap Opera” featured sculptures and collaborations with Hélène Garcia and Emile Degorce-Dumas performing "Extra Lucide" as well as Rehab Hazgui. Rehab produced a soundtrack specifically for the exhibition that was plays between the intersection of the real and the fictitious while it interrupts the rhythms and cycles of the ordinary and expected.
Ayed looks at an exhibition as a starting point for generating a new body of work rather than as a destination for completed ideas. He draws from his previous exhibitions, where he employs mediums such as soap, olive oil and collected objects to build sculptural forms. Soap Opera is a stream of consciousness where each event or detail contributes to a narrative in which meaning is never imposed and only ever whispered.
