Originally scheduled for October 2015 during Evacuation Day, the 5th edition of Douz Doc Days was postponed to March 2016 and relocated to the island of Djerba. The new date was also symbolically chosen to coincide with the celebration of Independence Day. The Festival is defined primarily as an experience, a journey, an invitation to explore and to mark out geographical spaces and their representations. The festival also questionned the aspect of globalization. This event showcases the importance of documentary films in the MENA region and beyond, but also involves local populations. Inviting, for example, women of Douz (artisans, housewives, high school students) to be photographed – some for the first time – in their immediate environment. The festival sought to promote a methodology to spread artistic practices linked to images, in all social classes. Elsa Despiney, on behalf of the Kamel Lazaar Foundation, was a member of the 2016 Jury.
